Fulgurite is also known as “petrified Lightning”. It is created when lightning strikes quartz deposits, usually quartz sand areas. The Heat from the lightning fuses the quartz into amazing little channels. The quartz crystals fuse in apparent cylinders with holes at both ends,(mostly the case, not always), as if the new shape had formed around the lightning bolt!
