Glendolite is a Calcite pseudomorph over Ikaite. Locations - Kola Peninsula, Russia Ikaite - is a rare hydrated calcium carbonate mineral which when exposed to warmer temperatures and/or decreased pressure, it transforms into glendonite. Glendonite typically retains the original crystal shape of ikaite. Glendonite is notable because it provides valuable insights into past climate conditions. Its formation is closely tied to specific temperature and pressure conditions, so the presence of glendonite in ancient rocks can indicate the occurrence of past cold episodes or fluctuations in climate.
