Physical Properties

Fluorite (CaF2) formerly called fluorspar is a relatively common mineral; it has a wide range of colours (including yellow, blue, pink, purple and green) and frequently has occurrences of more than one colour in a single stone. The streak is white; it is transparent to translucent mineral with a vitreous lustre. The crystals formed by this mineral are cubes and octrahedra, and are often twinned. Fluorite may also be in massive, granular and compact habits. It commonly occurs as an accessory mineral sometimes with quartz, calcite, dolomite, barite, galena, sphalerite and other lead, silver or uranium minerals.
