Mineral Information for Nuummite

Nuummite is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of two minerals: anthophyllite and gedrite. These minerals belong to the amphibole group. Nuummite is characterized by its striking iridescence, which is caused by the presence of various minerals and the orientation of their plate-like crystals within the rock. Its coloration typically ranges from black to dark brown, often with shimmering flashes of gold, copper, and sometimes blue, creating a captivating play of light known as labradorescence. Nuummite from Greenland predominantly has golden and occasionally blue anthophyllite needle-like crystals.
