Osiris holding the crook and flail and wearing the sacred white crown of upper Egypt. The god Osiris was regent and judge of the underworld. Osiris was known in life as a speaker of truth and just by speaking could pacify an enemy. This trait allowed him to champion life and even in death it give him the position of regent in the underworld where Osiris would receive the dead and hear their accounts of their lives before passing judgment and granting eternal life. Osiris would use a simple feather to perform this judgment - the hearts of the dead were weighed against the feather. The notion is that a persons heart should not weigh heavy when reflecting on their life, if it did it would a sign of guilt and impure heart. Only a pure heart could receive eternal life. Good judgment is to be true.
