Mineral information for Hematite

Hematite crystals are rhombohedral, tabular, or sometimes prismatic or pyramidal. When it forms tabular crystals it may be rosettes and is also then known as iron roses. Other habits are wide it may be compact, massive, stalctitic, botryoidal, granular, columnar, foliated and reniform. Colour ranges from brown, red, brown-red, grey and black. The streak is red brown, it is opaque with a metallic to dull lustre. Group OXIDES, Composition Fe2O3, Hardness 5.0-6.0, Crystal structure TRIGONAL.
