Amethyst Crystal Meaning - The Elevator the amethyst is a very powerful aid to spiritual enhancement by brining the lower natures to a higher consciousness. Amethyst Physical Characteristics
Amethyst is a variety of the mineral Quartz (SiO2). Amethyst has been found in siliceous volcanic's, occurring as macroscopic crystals and drusy coverings inside of agate lined cavities or vugs, often forming geodes. Amethyst also occurs in quartz veins. The purple colour of amethyst is due to small amounts of iron impurities at specific sites in the crystal structure of quartz. The difference between amethyst and citrine is only the oxidation state of the iron present in the quartz. Upon heating, the iron impurities are reduced and amethyst's purple colour fades and becomes yellow to reddish-orange (citrine), green, or colourless depending on the site and original oxidation state of the iron impurities present and the amount and duration of the heating. Amethyst is dichroic, showing bluish or reddish purple tinge when viewed from different angles. Usually faceted as a mixed- or step-cut, amethyst has distinctive inclusions, which look like tiger-stripes, thumbprints or feathers.
